The bell tower of Sare

One morning in September 2003, the steeple of the Sare church caught fire and was almost completely destroyed. Now renovated, come and discover this atypical monument.

One morning in September 2003, the steeple of the church in Sare caught fire and was almost completely destroyed. A year later, the Navarrese sculptor Juan GORRITI discovered the charred remains of his frame in a nearby field. In agreement with the Town Hall, he is responsible for reviving the burnt beams by converting them into sculptures, to be discovered today in the church.

The Saint-Martin church also presents a reminder of its history since the XNUMXth century, discoidal bronze stelae, three floors of galleries typical of the Basque Country and a tower with six floors with oak beams. The bell tower has been completely rebuilt. It can be visited, in particular to see its bell, the most decorated in France.
